NHS Shetland and Clan Cancer Support are joining forces during November to increase understanding of mouth cancer, encourage good oral health and ensure people know what changes to look out for.

Update: temporary access restrictions – Gilbertson Road entrance - roofing works at the Gilbert Bain Hospital
Please be advised that due to ongoing scaffolding and maintenance works associated with the roofing work repairs at the Gilbert Bain Hospital, temporary access restrictions will be in place at the Gilbertson Road entrance to the hospital from Tuesday 27 October to Friday 30 October 2026, with the possibility of works continuing into the weekend.

The unannounced Safe Delivery of Care inspection, undertaken in June 2026, examined care within the Emergency Department, Renal Unit, Ambulatory Care/Day Surgical Unit, as well as Ward 3 and Ward 1.

Update: Issue resolved - Temporary issue with requesting prescriptions via Patient Access
We are aware that following a recent upgrade with a clinical system, EMIS PCS, that prescriptions requested via Patient Access are not being received by some health centres.
