Out of Area Placements - FOI Response Register

I seek information on Inappropriate Out of Area Placements (OAPs) in Scotland.

This is defined as when a person with acute mental health needs who requires inpatient care is admitted to a unit that does not form part of the usual local network of services.

Please state:

NHS Shetland services a remote and rural population of 23,000. As such there is no Mental Health in-patient facilities on the island so the answer to all of your questions below is nil.
As Shetland is a remote island (60 degrees north) the nearest location that individuals can be referred to is at Cornhill Hospital in Aberdeen. This facility which is over 300km away from Shetland is run and operated by NHS Grampian. This is the usual local service pathway.
