A few notes to be aware of:

1. We don't have a dedicated "orthopaedic service" in Shetland. We do however perform some orthopaedic surgery and follow local guidelines in relation to DVT/PE prevention and management.

2. Patients who have had their surgery elsewhere and transferred back to Shetland are continued on their DVT/PE prophylaxis according to the wishes of the operating surgeon they were under.

3. The local guidelines followed by the Shetland surgical team are an amalgamation of both SIGN and NICE guidance as appropriate to our local situation.

4. Our local DVT/PE management is audited and presented at the surgical audit meeting every three months.
