1. For the period between 1 January 2019 to present (most recent), broken down by year, please confirm the number of patients who left A&E departments after registering but before being treated?

2. Of these numbers how many were triaged but left before being treated?

Patient triaging is a process that begins the moment a patient enters A&E therefore definitionally in this context it is not possible to answer separately with regards to patient’s having been triaged as all patients are triaged to some degree.

The categorisation of discharge types used within NHS Shetland has 2 reasons that fall within this description: “Patient left before assessment completed”, “Patient left before being treated”.

Please note individual patients may have left before being treated more than once in a given year.
