Request and Response

1. Can you tell me how many patients were treated in your health board - admitted to hospital and or treated in A&E without admission or in clinics - after developing complications from surgery or treatment abroad?

Under FOISA s 12(1), NHS Shetland is not obliged to comply with a request if the estimated cost of doing so exceeds £600.  Having reviewed your request, NHS Shetland has determined that the cost of compliance would exceed £600 and so is unable to provide the information requested; we have provided a breakdown of the estimated costs below:

This information is not coded and is not recorded outside of individual patient’s case files. To answer this question would require a manual examination of all patient case files.

We estimate this would take in excess of 40 hours. Staff costs are capped at £15.00 per hour therefore where it would take longer than 40 hours this would exceed the £600 cap.

2. Do you have the type of complications that they developed which caused or prompted their hospital treatment?

Do you have figures over the last year please?

Do you have figures for the previous year?
