Request and Response

I write to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Scotland Act.

How many people have attended services provided by your health board due to
complications/concerns surrounding the use of vaping and e-cigarette products.

In accordance with FOISA s 17(1), NHS Shetland confirms that it does not hold the
information requested. This is because we do not at present routinely collect data on the use
of vaping or e-cigarettes, as the Quit Your Way (Stop Smoking Support) service is directed
towards tobacco cessation.

Please note a large number of people are "dual-users" (smoke tobacco and use e-cigarettes
concurrently), or choose to use vapes as a cessation aid, so the picture is more complicated
than "either/or".

How many people have attended services provided by your health board due to
complications/concerns surrounding the use of cigarettes/tobacco.

For each point I would be grateful for data for each year between 2018-2023.

The number of quit attempts made per financial year for the past 5 years:

2017/18  138
2018/19 162
2019/20 121
2020/21 97
2021/22 105
2022/23 73

With regards to financial year 2023/24 then in accordance with FOISA s 17(1), NHS
Shetland confirms that it does not hold the information requested.

Generally speaking, only those who are concerned about their smoking attempt to quit,
however not all of these individuals will present with complication from smoking, and not
everyone with complications wants to quit.
