Between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023;

1. How many patients received a final diagnosis of stroke? And how of these many were
discharged?

NHS Shetland uses the ICD 10 coding system. The figure provided is the number of patients
with any of the following ICD 10 diagnosis codes: I60, I61, I62, I63, I64

33 patients

Please note that coding does not take place until after discharge and therefore all diagnosis
codes applied are final.

Please also note that some complex patients may not yet have been coded.

2. How many patients with a final diagnosis of stroke were a) treated as an inpatient in an
integrated stroke/ rehab unit, b) treated as an inpatient on a rehab ward?

NHS Shetland does not have an integrated stroke/rehab unit or a rehab ward.

3. Does your area provide Early Supported Discharge, and if so, how many of these patients
received it?

No

4. How many of the above stroke patients (Excluding those who received ESD) were referred
for Community Rehab?

No, they are person centred and outcome driven.

7. What is the current waiting time for accessing community rehab?

Physiotherapy community rehab may wait 1-4 weeks but can vary depending on
geographical location of patient and staff absence.
