NHS Shetland uses the ICD 10 coding system. Figures provided are for the number of
inpatients where the given ICD 10 code was listed as Main Condition or Other Condition.

Please note that coding does not take place until after discharge and some complex patients
may not yet have been coded.

1. How many patients in Scotland were admitted to hospitals in your NHS health board with
malnutrition annually in the last five years of available data?

In accordance with FOISA s 16(1), NHS Shetland confirms that it holds the information
requested but that it is exempt from disclosure under FOISA s 25(1) as the information
requested is accessible without submitting a request under FOISA s 1(1). The information

d) Tuberculosis

Figures provided are for ICD 10 codes “A15-A19 Tuberculosis”.

f) Whooping cough

Figures provided are for ICD 10 code “A37 Whooping cough”.

g) Typhoid

Figures provided are for ICD 10 code “A01.0 Typhoid fever”.

4. For each of those diseases, how many of the patients admitted to hospital were children
under 18 years of age?

All patients listed are under 18.
