Request and Response
  1. Do you have a clear pathway in primary care for the investigation of non-cancer related lower gastrointestinal symptoms that include the use of faecal calprotectin tests? If yes, please attach a copy.

We use two pathways, which are NHS Grampian guidance.
1 is for Irritable bowel syndrome which does include faecal calprotectin

2 is for inflammatory bowel disease which does not include faecal calprotectin

  1. Are a) qFIT and b) faecal calprotectin tests available in primary care in your area and for what indications?
  2. Are a) qFIT and b) faecal calprotectin tests available in secondary care in your area and for what indications?

For questions 2 and 3, qFIT and faecal calprotectin are available to both primary and secondary care.

We use qFIT for all urgent suspected bowel cancer referrals.

Faecal Calprotectin would be requested for disease monitoring at the request of secondary care
