Prisons and Custody Suites - FOI Response Register

1. Provide a breakdown of access to dedicated mental health professionals across all prisonsand custody suites in the Health Board’s catchment area, detailing which prisons or custodysuites do not currently have access to one or more dedicated mental health professionals ona full-time basis.

There are no prisons in NHS Shetland’s catchment area.

2. Inform whether the Health Board currently expects to meet the target laid out in Action 15 ofthe Scottish Government Mental Health Strategy 2017 – 2027, to “give access to dedicatedmental health professionals to… every police station custody suite, and to our prisons”

Shetland’s custody can access either the duty or out of hours Community Psychiatric Nurse
who can then access the Consultant Psychiatrist if needed. An Advanced Nurse Practitioner
may be contacted in the first instance who can then also access the above. It will depend on
the presentation of the individual.
