•           Wide Area Network Connectivity

NHS Shetland uses the Scottish Wide Area Network (SWAN) for all WAN connectivity

•           Dark Fibre Services

NHS Shetland has some dedicated fibres provided by the Shetland Islands Council to operated network services between sites.  The arrangement is provided under SLA.  The SLA is an annual rolling arrangement and covers 1st line service desk, backup datacentre provision and some dark fibre.  It is £25,000 per year.

•           Ethernet Services

NHS Shetland maintains all its ethernet infrastructure; this is not provided by third parties.

•           Broadband/FTTC/FTTP Services

NHS Shetland uses broadband services in some small and/or remote sites provided by BT/EE standard business services

NHS Shetland has FTTP in some locations provided by BT

•           SWAN Solutions

NHS Shetland uses the Scottish Wide Area Network (SWAN) for WAN connectivity to link sites to the mainland

•           Any additional services such as professional services, maintenance or managed services

BT contracts are on a rolling basis.

The SWAN contract is managed on behalf of NHS Scotland boards by National Services Scotland.  The contract has recently been awarded to BT.

No contracts in place, infrastructure is owned and operated in-house for primary datacentre services

A backup centre is located in a Shetland Islands Council premises.  Only the location and connection is provided.  The storage and compute is owned and operated in-house.

The arrangement is provided under SLA.  The SLA is an annual rolling arrangement and covers 1st line service desk, backup datacentre provision and some dark fibre.  It is £25,000 per year.

•           Data Centre Networking

Network connectivity between primary and backup datacentres provided by Shetland Islands Council. The arrangement is provided under SLA.  The SLA is an annual rolling arrangement and covers 1st line service desk, backup datacentre provision and some dark fibre.  It is £25,000 per year.

•           Compute/Storage/Virtualisation Technology

All compute/storage/vm is owned and operated in-house

•           Any additional services such as professional services, maintenance or managed services

NHS Shetland has no contracts in place for cloud solutions.

Some suppliers that are contracted may use cloud as their method of hosting for their solution, but it is not for the purposes of NHS Shetland having access to cloud services.

NHS Shetland is part of a national M365 tenancy for NHS Scotland that is a private cloud hosted by Microsoft.
