Can you please tell me -
- Your current policy on supporting survivors of trauma when being screened or treated with what could be considered an invasive procedure?
- Your previous policy on supporting survivors of trauma when being screened or treated with what could be considered an invasive procedure?
- Does your current policy on supporting survivors of trauma take into consideration Article 39 of the UN Convention on The Rights of the Child?
- If a patient identifies to any member of medical staff that they are a survivor of trauma, what rights do they have to request alternative treatments or procedures?
NHS Shetland do not have a specific policy that applies to people who may have experienced trauma and any subsequent treatment they may require. The support we offer people is context specific and we use trauma informed care principles e.g. care based on safety, choice, collaboration, trust.
We are about to train a member of staff to Trauma Informed Skilled level, so that they can provide trauma informed skills training across the organisation. A number of senior clinicians/lead have already completed the NES Scottish Trauma Informed Leaders Training (STILT).
Some services such as CAMHS have reviewed how they provide care, using a trauma lens – but this is not in place universally across all services in all settings.
