- How many people in your heath board’s jurisdiction have been diagnosed with tooth decay issues in each year since 2018?
In accordance with FOISA s 17(1), NHS Shetland confirms that it does not hold the information requested. These figures are not held by the Health Board
The only indication of those who have been diagnosed with tooth decay is information that is gathered by the undertaking of the National Dental Inspection Programme (NDIP). This targets school pupils in Primary 1 and Primary 7
NHS Shetland will also do additional classes when feasible (Primary 3 and Primary 5). This is normally in schools with less than 30 pupils in total
The following figures are the NDIP figures of tooth decay in the Shetland primary school population;
2018 – 261
2019 – 224
2020 – 194
2022 – 123
2023 – 222
Note - Due to COVID restrictions, we have no figures for 2021 and reduced figures from 2022 (only Primary 1, 2 and 7 examined)
