Can you please advise any SIGN clinical guidelines, or where specifically shared by the Scottish government and/or relevant NHS authorities such as Education for Healthcare, NICE clinical guidelines, which your health board have chosen not to follow or adhere to recommendations within?
SIGN was established in 1993. The current Chief Nurse (Corporate) was involved with the
implementation of SIGN Guidelines in NHS Shetland from 1996 onwards. When SIGN
Guidelines or any other national clinical guidance is received in the Organisation this is
reviewed by the Medical Director and if appropriate shared across the organisation, either in a
targeted way or more generally depending upon the scope of the guidance.
Guidance may come in via other routes and thus not be subject to this process.
It should also be noted that not all guidance which is issued nationally is relevant or pertinent
to the delivery of healthcare services in a remote, rural and island setting such as ours.
