It is my understanding that the triage standard for a patient presenting at an Emergency Department is 15 minutes.
As such, can I request the following for the last six calendar years (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024), broken down by hospital?
NHS Shetland has only 1 hospital, the Gilbert Bain Hospital.
Figures provided for 2024 are up to 30/09/2024.
- The total number of infants that attended an Emergency Department in your health board.
- The number of infants ED attendances were seen and resulted in a subsequent admission, transfer or discharge within 4 hours
- The number of infants that waited over eight hours in an Emergency Department
- The number of infants that waited over twelve hours in an Emergency Department
Our definition of “infant” means a baby from birth up to 1 years old.
It is my understanding that this information can be provided in Excel format, which would be preferred.
Where we have given <5 answers, this is because NHS Shetland considers that providing more specific information carries a high risk of identifying individuals. As such and in accordance with FOISA s 16(1), NHS Shetland confirms that it holds the information requested but that it is exempt from disclosure under FOISA s 38(1)(b) as read with s 38 (2A) as the information constitutes personal data and disclosure would breach the confidentiality of the data subjects.
