Prior to a school immunization team administering the Live Attenuated Intranasal Influenza Vaccine (LAIV) under Patient Group Direction authorisation in secondary schools
- Is every parent and Gillick competent child provided with the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIR) prior to making a decision as to whether or not to consent?
No as the patient information leaflet is only received with the vaccine. The consent packs are received pre sealed prior to this.
- On vaccination day how is a Gillick competent child’s decision regarding consent / non-consent recorded?
This is recorded on the consent form
- Is a witness present when a Gillick competent child makes a decision regarding consent on vaccination day? If so, is the name of the witness recorded on the child's health record?
Yes. This is recorded in writing on the consent form.
- Is verbal consent given by a parent/guardian over the phone on vaccination day considered “valid consent”?
Yes. With appropriate verification of who is being talked to.
- Are phone calls seeking consent from a parent on vaccination day recorded?
Yes, in writing.
