Yes – Team – Capital Management Group oversees all capital procurement activity. Role is to prioritise limited budget and to ensure best value and compliance.

From a Medical Physics (Clinical engineering) stand point, we have a 10 year equipment replacement program. Which is reviewed on an annual basis or if the Health Board or Government requests it.

NHS Scotland does not routinely use NHS Supply Chain which is predominately used in England and Wales.

We replaced 10 items of medical equipment as part of our 10 year rolling equipment replacement program. 4876 items on database, therefore 0.2%.

Medical Physics is responsible for the disposal of medical equipment that appears on our database, which is part of our 10 year rolling medical equipment replacement plan.

Nothing from a Medical Physics standpoint, at the end of the 10 year life, equipment is assessed and replaced if clinically necessary and funds are available.

Any damaged piece of medical equipment that cannot be repaired is disposed of in compliance with WEEE (Waste Electrical, Electronic Equipment) regulations.
