  1. What processes are in place to verify waste contractors are providing the correct documentation and operating with correct permits?
Before waste is taken or collected the Contractor does yearly checks by requesting all waste types to be disposed of, this includes waste classification numbers - EWC codes. Waste Officer for Waste Transfer Station completes the documentation and returns it, also required are the approximate amounts for all hazardous waste. This is for their site permit for waste allowed for disposal, a copy of the permit is sent to NHS Shetland to check and keep for our
records. Monthly spreadsheet is sent from contractor for all waste received on site for disposal by NHS Shetland.
  1. What is your waste audit process?
NHS Shetland undertakes Pre-Assessment Audits for its sites, customers are provided guidance (posters) and complete their own P.A.A. as per SEPA guidance. Before any waste is collected this form is inspected by Waste Officer for Waste Transfer Station.
