Request and Response
  1. What is the current policy in your health board area for patients to request same-sex care, particularly in situations involving intimate examinations or procedures?

NHS Shetland do not have a policy on this

  1. Are patients able to request same-sex care from their GP or healthcare professional (same biological sex), particularly when they are undergoing intimate exams?

In Secondary Care a chaperone would always be present. In Primary Care patients would be offered a chaperone and/or the option for an alternative person (whether or not this was related to gender) to examine them but with the caveat that this may mean they need to come back another time. We have a number of single-handed practices.

  1. When was this policy first enforced in your health board?

N/A

  1. Can you provide a copy of this policy?
