Chargeable Overseas Visitors - FOI Response Register

Please provide the following for the most recent five financial years, or if not available, for the three financial years up to and including 2023–24:

1. The total cost incurred by your NHS board for the treatment of chargeable overseas visitors.
2. The total amount billed to chargeable overseas visitors during the same periods.
3. The amount successfully recovered from chargeable overseas visitors for treatment costs.
4. The amount of unpaid charges owed by chargeable overseas visitors as of the end of each financial year.
5. The highest individual charge levied on a chargeable overseas visitor in each year;

6. A brief description of the treatment or service provided;

With such small numbers, giving treatment details, NHS Shetland considers that providing more specific information carries a high risk of identifying individuals. As such and in accordance with FOISA s 16(1), NHS Shetland confirms that it holds the information requested but that it is exempt from disclosure under FOISA s 38(1)(b) as read with s 38 (2A) as the information constitutes personal data and disclosure would breach the confidentiality of the data subjects.

7. The nationality of the patient (if held);

In accordance with FOISA s 17(1), NHS Shetland confirms that it does not hold the information requested.

8. Whether the charge was paid in full, partially paid, or unpaid.
