Request and Response

It is my understanding that your health board holds data on your Health Visitors, procedures and standards. As such, can I request the following information for each calendar year from 2019 to 2025 (most recent):

  1. The number of health visitor visits that have been cancelled?

The information recorded on the child Health surveillance system does not provide this information and so a check of individual paper records (held in multiple locations) would need to be conducted to retrieve the information.

Under FOISA s 12(1), NHS Shetland is not obliged to comply with a request if the estimated cost of doing so exceeds £600. Having reviewed your request, NHS Shetland has determined that the cost of compliance would exceed £600 and so is unable to provide the information requested. In general and with staff costs capped at £15 per hour this equates to 40 hours of staff time. We have provided a breakdown of the estimated costs below:

There have been 1048 births in the timeframe requested and we estimate it would take 10 minutes per record to retrieve the information requested.

1048 x 10 minutes = 174 hours at a cost of £2,610

  1. The number of health visitor visits that have been cancelled due to non clinical capacity reasons?

The information recorded on the child Health surveillance system does not provide this information and so a check of individual paper records (held in multiple locations) would need to be conducted to retrieve the information.

  1. The number of health visitor visits that have been changed from being in person to over the phone instead?

The information recorded on the child Health surveillance system does not provide this information and so a check of individual paper records (held in multiple locations) would need to be conducted to retrieve the information.

  1. The number of families assigned to each health visitor?

Due to multiple changes within the team, including change of geographical area and hours. This is difficult to answer. Again all notes would have to be manually checked to see who held which case at which time.

The figures below are the number for each health visitor for each year, but this does not include those already on their caseloads in 2019, or whether the health visitor is full or part time.

Please see attached spreadsheet.

  1. The percentage of children who have received all 11 of the policy assigned visits as part of the Universal Health Visiting Pathway?

In accordance with FOISA s 17(1), NHS Shetland confirms that it does not hold the information requested.

As only 5 of the assigned visits are recorded on the Child Health Surveillance Programme – Pre-school system, this information is not available.

  1. The number of families that have not had all 11 home visits due to staffing issues?

In accordance with FOISA s 17(1), NHS Shetland confirms that it does not hold the information requested.

As only 5 of the assigned visits are recorded on the Child Health Surveillance Programme – Pre-school system, this information is not available.
