Hospital at Home - FOI Response Register

Following the Scottish Governments announcement that by the end of December 2026 there will be an increase in the Hospital at Home service capacity across Scotland of 2000 equivalent beds funded by an allocation of £100m, I am writing to enquire as to:-

1. Your current level of hospital at home bed equivalents

NHS Shetland currently has 4 Hospital at Home beds as part of a pilot project.

The service is available 0900 to 1700, Monday to Friday

2. Your current expenditure on hospital at home services

£185,628 of funding was requested and awarded from Scottish Government on a non-recurring basis in June 2024 which is being used to fund the Hospital at Home pilot in Shetland.

3. Your anticipated level of hospital at home bed equivalents by December 2026

The current pilot data would support maintaining 4 beds at this time. 

4. Your anticipated increase in hospital at home expenditure by December 2026

As part of the pilot, data is being evaluated to inform our next funding application. It is anticipated that an increase in the previous funding bid will be requested to expand the multi-disciplinary team and further develop the Hospital at Home service.  The exact figure is still being determined and will be subject to funding being awarded and agreed by Scottish Government.
