Surgical Procedures - FOI Response Register

1. Please could you provide any policies and protocols currently in place to reduce and prevent errors during surgical procedures?
2. Please could you also provide any new policies, procedures or protocols to reduce and prevent errors during surgeries introduced by your health board in the past three years?

NHS Shetland do not have any of these documents.  Instead, the Team undertake –

1. A safety brief in the morning for the department
2. A patient safety brief with the surgical team
3. WHO safety checklist which comprises of three parts -

• Prior to starting anaesthesia
• Prior to commencing surgery
• Time out at the end of the procedure
