Who we are
The Speech and Language Therapy service work with children, young people and adults to support speech, language, communication and swallowing.

We are based at the Independent Living Centre but work in a variety of settings across Shetland, including people’s homes, schools and early learning and childcare settings, Gilbert Bain Hospital and care homes.

Types of support
We may provide support in the following ways.

Information available to all. Promoting speech, language and communication in our communities and working with partners to promote communication friendly environments.

Targeted
Specific advice or support for individuals identified as more likely to have speech, language and communication needs.

Individualised
Support may include direct or indirect interventions and will involve working closely with individuals, parents, carers and partners.
