Information for Practices
The GP Hub - 'Rediscover the Joy' scheme where experienced GP’s are recruited to work on temporary 1-4 week placements to help all GP Practices in Scotland.
'The Joy' is an NHS project - a collaboration between NHS Shetland, Orkney, Western Isles and Highland to recruit highly motivated GPs to work initially in rural and remote practices. The project has now been expanded to provide cover across the whole of Scotland.
GP's are recruited to work for the scheme and can be placed in Practices across Scotland, subject to agreement, usually for 1-4 week slots. Timeframes, work patterns and locations are all subject to mutual agreement. The scheme has already proven attractive to experienced GP's from across the UK who are looking for a different experience and a refreshing change. The skills, experience and quality that the GP’s bring is very high. The first placements started in July 2019.
This scheme is different, these are not locum GP's but employed, experienced capable GP's with a diverse range of skills and qualities who make significant contributions to the Primary Health Care multi disciplinary teams where they work.
Applications are welcome from all Practices within Scotland for placement of GPs to provide temporary cover of up to 4 weeks at a time, however longer time periods may also be covered by one or more GP's. Alternatively GP's may establish an ongoing relationship with one Practice after an initial assignment.
The scheme is administered by the GP Hub based at NHS Shetland.
