Work Experience

NHS Shetland is pleased to support a number of clinical and non-clinical work experience placements. This provides individuals with the opportunity to gain further knowledge and understanding in the careers available at the NHS. This also supports students in making informed decisions regarding their career choices and University/College applications.

Eligibility

Those interested in applying for an elective placement should note the following:

  • Work experience availability depends on the capacity in the ward/department when the request is received, we cannot always guarantee a placement.
  • Placement duration depends solely on the ward/department that the student is interested in.
  • Work experience students are required to be 16 years old at the time of the placement, unless the placement is in Dentistry whereby the minimum age is 15 years old.
  • All students will be required to complete a confidentiality statement and agreement form prior to their placement.
  • 2 references must be provided by the student from an employer or guidance teacher.
  • Students will be required to complete an Occupational Health questionnaire to ensure they are fit for placement (please note clearances can take up to 1 to 2 weeks).
