NHS Shetland is proud to announce that one of its colleagues, Marie Hurson, a Cardiac Nurse Specialist, has today, Monday 14 April, been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland Nurse of the Year Awards 2025.
The RCN Scotland Nurse of the Year Awards celebrate the #BestOfNursing in Scotland, recognising excellence in nursing across a range of specialties. The awards shine a spotlight on the dedication, innovation, and exceptional professional care provided by nursing staff throughout the country.
The twelve categories are designed to encompass various nursing specialties, acknowledging the indispensable contributions of registered nurses, nursing support workers, broader nursing teams and nursing students. They also recognise the innovation, leadership, and dedication to learning displayed within the nursing community.
Marie Hurson, our Cardiac Nurse Specialist, has been nominated for the Clinical Leadership Award. This award aims to recognise an exceptional leader who, by inspiring others, has made a significant difference to service delivery and quality of care.
Marie said: “I am deeply honoured to be nominated for this award and the recognition it represents for cardiac nursing in making a significant difference to service delivery and for patient-centred care across the remote and rural healthcare setting of NHS Shetland.”
“We are incredibly proud of Marie who is a role model for nursing leadership,” said Prof Kathleen Carolan, Director of Nursing and Acute Services at NHS Shetland.
“Marie is very highly regarded by her patients and colleagues and it is fantastic to see her clinical leadership being recognised by her peers and the RCN through the Scotland Nurse of the Year awards, for all the work she has done to improve care for people with cardiovascular conditions in Shetland.”
The winners of each category will be unveiled at an awards ceremony on 12 June at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
