This year, the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) supported Scottish Health Boards with outreach clinics as part of the vaccination programme. NHS Shetland was fortunate enough to feature on the list, which enabled the vaccination team to offer additional vaccination sessions earlier this month.

Two SAS vaccinators, Elaine Owen and Margaret Morgan, employed separately from the SAS frontline ambulance service, worked alongside a member of NHS Shetland’s vaccination team, to provide winter booster vaccinations for Covid-19 and seasonal influenza at Bressay clinic on Tuesday 3 October, Sandwick Social Club on Wednesday 4 and Dunrossness Central Public ‘Boddam’ Hall on Thursday 5.

Margaret from the SAS Vaccination Team said: “I would like to say how great it has been working in Shetland. We have been made to feel so welcome and everyone has been lovely. I hope we have been some help to you all.”

Elaine Maguire, Vaccination Programme Team Leader, said: “On behalf of the NHS Shetland Vaccination Team, I would like to thank everyone who helped support this very successful initiative, including the Scottish Ambulance Service, Lerwick Ambulance station; Bressay Development Ltd, Sandwick Social Club and Dunrossness Central Public Hall for the use of their facilities and the community of Shetland for supporting these vaccination clinics and offering feedback to SAS about them.”
