NHS Shetland is delighted to announce that Dr Kirsty Brown, Clinical Development Fellow, has been awarded the prestigious William Cullen Prize by the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) in recognition of her outstanding contribution to medical education and service innovation in rural healthcare.

Breast Screening Service - Shetland Programme 2025
Approximately 3,000 women between the ages of 50 and 70 years will be receiving their invitations over the next few months to attend for breast screening when the mobile units return to Shetland on Monday 7 April 2025. There will be two mobile units based at Clickimin Leisure Complex until 12 June 2025.

Maintenance work update – Gilbert Bain Hospital
Following recent investigative and remedial work at the Gilbert Bain Hospital, we are pleased to confirm that services that were temporarily relocated have returned to their usual locations. The Outpatient Department is now back on the ground floor.

Gilbert Bain Hospital service update
Following last week’s announcement, the Gilbert Bain Hospital is continuing to operate at full capacity. Thanks to mutual support from staff who usually work in other settings, we were able to open extra beds last week, ensuring that all planned surgical procedures went ahead as scheduled.
