The NHS Shetland Psychological Therapies Team (PTS) has officially opened its new home in Scalloway.
Based at the former Scalloway Health Centre in Harley Street, an open morning was held last month, with the aim of welcoming colleagues, partners, and guests to explore the refreshed facilities, meet the team, and learn more about the service over tea, coffee, and homemade cake.
Around 20 guests attended the celebration on Friday 10 October, including Brian Chittick, Chief Executive of NHS Shetland, and Jo Robinson, Director of Community Health and Social Care.
Jo Robinson praised the new premises, she said: “What a lovely place — it has such a nice atmosphere and is very welcoming. I hope patients and staff enjoy using this new space.”
Chief Executive Brian Chittick had the honour of cutting the ribbon to mark the official opening. He said: “It was absolutely fantastic to see how the PTS team has transformed the service to be truly patient-focused. They now deliver care innovatively — through technology, group meetings, and face-to-face sessions in various locations — all tailored to what matters most to our patients. I was genuinely in awe of how the team have come together to make these changes.”
Guests enjoyed home-baked treats throughout the morning, kindly prepared by Pauline Hopkinson, PTS Team Lead, and Elizabeth Dalgleish, Psychological Therapist.
Dr Emily Pathe, Consultant Psychologist and Lead for Psychological Services, who joined the service this year, shared her pride in the team’s achievements. She said: “Psychological Services — comprising both PTS and Secondary Care Psychology — is proud to be part of the wider Community Mental Health Team. Our new base in Harley Street is already helping us deliver joined-up, flexible, person-centred care in a space that supports both patient experience and staff wellbeing. I’m incredibly proud of the team and grateful for the support we’ve received to make this happen.”
The team also expressed thanks to the Estates team for their support in renovating and preparing the new space.
Although the PTS team relocated to the Harley Street site in June 2025, the open morning marked an opportunity to celebrate the move and welcome visitors to see the improvements first-hand. Previously, the service was based at the old Ambulance Service building at Montfield.
