Psychological Therapies Service (Primary care)
The psychological therapy service offers counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy to people over the age of 16 years who are not in full-time education and who are registered with a GP in Shetland.
You will need to be referred by your GP or by another mental health professional. You will be offered an assessment appointment. If the service is suitable for your needs you will then go on to access the appropriate therapy for up to eight sessions.
The service is now based at the former Scalloway Health Centre in Harley Street, Scalloway, ZE1 OHU.
Clinical Psychology Service (Secondary care)
Psychology is embedded within the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). Referrals to Psychology are discussed by multidisciplinary colleagues in the CMHT at a weekly referral meeting. Our Psychology Team work together with those who access our service, their family and any carers, in a trauma-informed manner, to look at the difficulties that they are experiencing, and to assess the effects that their mental health needs are having on their life. We make use of the evidence base and take a recovery focus, aiming to support the person using the service to identify their strengths and build upon these to tackle their mental health struggles. We work closely with other statutory and voluntary agencies.
