NHS Shetland is pleased to advise patients that, following completion of improvement works, the Walk-In Clinic will return to Grantfield from Tuesday 22 September.

The works at Grantfield have included the addition of a new toilet, an extra clinic room and a number of other improvements designed to enhance the experience for patients using the service.

Before the move back to Grantfield, the clinic will continue to operate from its temporary location at Outpatients at the Gilbert Bain Hospital with the following opening times:

  • Friday 18 September: 5pm to 8pm (please do not arrive before 5pm)
  • Saturday 19 September: 9am to 5pm
  • Sunday 20 September: 9am to 5pm
  • Monday 21 September: Closed

As the pilot service continues to develop, opening days and times may occasionally vary. Patients are encouraged to check the NHS Shetland website and social media channels for the latest information and service updates.

The Walk-In Clinic is available to all patients in Shetland, including those who are not registered with a local GP practice. Visitors to Shetland can also access the service.

Patients attending the clinic can receive a same-day assessment for urgent, non-life-threatening conditions that would normally be managed in primary care. This includes new or acute symptoms such as pain, rashes, fever and infections. Patients may be seen by either a GP or an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

The service is not intended for emergency care, ongoing management of long-term conditions, repeat prescriptions, medication reviews, minor injuries, administrative requests or specialist care. Patients whose needs fall outside the scope of the service will be directed to the most appropriate healthcare service.

Please note that repeat prescriptions cannot be ordered through the Walk-In Clinic. Patients should request repeat prescriptions from their usual GP practice during the week. If medication has run out, patients should speak to their local pharmacy about the availability of an emergency supply. For more information, visit NHS Pharmacy First Scotland | NHS inform

The Vaccination Team will also return to Grantfield on Tuesday 22 September, with the Winter Vaccination Programme now underway. Anyone wishing to discuss a vaccination appointment can contact the team on 01595 743319 or by emailing shet.vaccination-team@nhs.scot.

Dr Deepa Shah said: "We would like to thank everyone for their patience while the Walk-In Clinic temporarily relocated to the Outpatients Department at the Gilbert Bain Hospital earlier this month.

"This move allowed us to carry out significant improvements to the Grantfield facility, creating a better environment for patients and supporting the continued operation of both the Vaccination Centre and Walk-In Clinic from the site.

"As we continue to develop the Walk-In Clinic service, we would encourage patients to check the NHS Shetland website and social media channels regularly for the latest information on opening times and service arrangements."
