Pay & Pensions

When will I get paid

You will be paid monthly two clear banking days prior to the end of the month. Please note this will be the basic months’ pay and will not include any unsocial, night or additional hours worked which will be paid in the following month.

Please note that depending on when you start your post, you may not be paid in your first month due to the payroll cut-off date.

Bank/Relief hours are paid one month in lieu e.g. any hours worked in August will be paid at the end of September.

Your Payslip

You will receive your payslip in work via the mail. You can opt to go paperless, which we encourage our staff to do. Once you are paperless, you can view your payslip online via the e-expenses site

Please contact the local Payroll Team if you have any pay queries:   gram.shetlandpayroll@nhs.scot

To receive electronic payslips please contact the Team to arrange.

Pension

As an employee, you are automatically enrolled in the NHS pension scheme run by the Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA). Both you and the NHS contribute to the scheme every month to help you save for your retirement. The government also contributes through tax relief. You can choose to opt out of the pension scheme, but if you stay in you will have your own pension when you retire. Your pension belongs to you, even if you leave the NHS.

For assistance with pension matters please refer to the Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) website below. The Payroll Team may be able to assist with general enquiries but it is advisable to contact SPPA directly in the first instance. SPPA Website
